About Sophie Bergerbrant

Sophie Bergerbrant’s main research interest is the European Bronze Age, with a particular focus on burial, the movement of people, textile production, warfare and gender.

She defended her thesis Bronze Age identity: Costume, conflict and contact in Northern Europe 1600-1300 BC at the University of Stockholm in 2007.

She then contributed to smaller research projects at the University of Stockholm before moving to Trondheim for a post-doc position (2010-2013) in the large HERA-funded research project Creativity and Craft production in Middle and Late Bronze Age Europe. Here, her work focused on textiles and textile production in the Bronze Age.

She moved to Gothenburg to be a researcher in the project The Rise: Travels, transmissions and transformations in temperate northern Europe during the 3rd and 2nd millennium BC: the rise of Bronze Age societies lead by Professor Kristiansen.

She currently are the PI in the project Bronze Age wool economy: production, trade, environment, husbandry and society (THESP). The project is funded by Riksbankens Jublieumsfond. Co-investigators in the project is Serena Sabatini and Karin M. Frei. She works with the textile production in the Middle Bronze Age in Hungary.

Sophie Bergerbrant is an experienced editor, including peer-reviewing articles and the production of four large volumes of collected papers, and she is a former technical editor for the Journal JONAS (Journal of Nordic Archaeological Science).
